Building MetaFloors an Online Flooring Shop

Meta Supply Group wanted to sell their flooring online. We built the shop, an ordering panel that turns the size of a room into the right quantity, and delivery priced per order.

The Story

MetaFloors is the online side of Meta Supply Group, a flooring and wall panel supplier with a warehouse in Trafford Park, Manchester. They buy direct and hold their own stock, and wanted to sell it online across the country.

Ease of use mattered to them most, and that is where the work went.

What We Built

Ordering by Size

Most product pages offer two ways to order. One takes a quantity in the unit the product ships in: boxes, packs, lengths or panels. The other takes the size of the space. A customer picks metres or feet, enters the measurement the product needs, adds another room or wall if needed, and on most items can add 10% for cuts and waste. The page works out how many to buy and puts that quantity in the basket.

Delivery Priced Per Order

Shipping is worked out per order, not charged flat. Two things set it: how hard the item is to move, and how far it is going from Manchester. The delivery page publishes the whole grid, standard against hard to ship across four distance bands, starting at £25 and free from £1,000. An order pays one charge, set by whichever item in it is hardest to ship.

Free Samples

Nobody picks a floor from a screen. Up to three finishes from the flooring range, cut from the boards MetaFloors sell, go into the basket at £0. A basket of samples on its own is posted for £5.50; collection from Manchester is free.

The Result

Someone who has never been to Trafford Park can order samples, size a room, get the right quantity and a real delivery price, and check out. The site answers the questions a customer would otherwise have to ring up and ask.
